The most important problems facing Minnesotans

What are the most important problems facing Minnesotans?

Have you ever wondered what the single most important problem facing Minnesotans is? So have we.

For the last thirty-five years our office has administered the Minnesota State Survey (MSS), a statewide telephone omnibus survey about current issues facing Minnesotans. Every year we have asked Minnesota Residents “What is the single most important problem facing people in Minnesota today?”

Over the last decade, the economy has always been the most important problem facing Minnesotans. However, in 2017 the economy was surpassed by Healthcare as the number one most important problem in Minnesota.

According to Minnesotans in 2017, the top 5 most important problems were healthcare (28.9%), the economy (22.7%), social issues (15.9%), government (7.6%), and taxes (5.2%).

Our Call Center recently completed telephone interviews with over 800 Minnesota residents for the 2018 MSS. We are currently analyzing the data, but it will be interesting to see if healthcare remains the most important problem facing Minnesotans in 2018.

The Minnesota State Survey includes statewide questions related to a wide variety of topics. Questions can be purchased by anyone, including faculty, departments, and external organizations, agencies, and communities. The survey allows numerous clients to purchase one or more questions in a statewide survey for as little as $1,500-$2,000 per question.
